Savoring Moments in England: Part II
Floating down the Stream of Time Floating down the stream of time from life to life with me. Makes no difference where you are or where you’d like to be…George Harrison Eight weeks ago I unpacked from my England tour yet there is still much to “unpack” as I reflect deeper. George Harrison’s lyrics floated in today… the quiet Beatle who shared my watery birth sign-Pisces. The Black Friars (Dominicans who wore black robes) founded a monastery in London from 1259 to 1539. Today in the same location, is the Black Friar’s pub, with monastic reliefs in stone and wood. After a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral I relished my first…

Savoring Moments in England: Part I
From history to novels and paintings to gardens, cathedrals, pubs, and afternoon tea I am grateful for this amazing opportunity to tour England. Let’s make time for a cuppa tea? Savoring Writers – Jane Austen We began our “Literary Tour” celebrating Jane Austen, hosted by Tours International. The annual “Regency Parade in Bath” was fun and colorful with over 1400 participants dressed in period costumes. From there we walked over to the Jane Austen Center. The next day we visited Chawton where Austen spent her later years with her sister and mother and the two churches where her father was rector. Knocking on the wooden door of…

End of the Season: Blue Moon
Blue Moon in Pisces Born in the sign of the fish I thrive on movement, fluidity, change. Yesterday I woke up with zero motivation. My dreams had brought me to many places. In comparision, Day seemed empty and cloudy. We drove to Hyannis with Dolce. Rain started. We found an outdoor covered cafe. Alberto’s! A friendly waiter, dog lover, brought Dolce water. Judy ordered pasta. I ordered canelloni. We watched the world go by. La Dolce Vita! Duende If you were in Boston in the early seventies you may have read George Frazier in the Boston Globe. His favorite word was from Andalusian Spanish. Duende meant in Stud Terkel’s words:…

Twelve Signs of the Zodiac: Deep Diving into Scorpio
The Sign of Scorpio is symbolic of our New England fall: trees burst with energy showing off all their rich colors only to fall and return to the earth. People born under this sign understand its symbol of the phoenix rising from its own ashes. Pluto rules the sign – when that planet makes an alignment to your chart you also can experience the effects of change and regeneration. Keywords for this fixed water sign are: passionate, perceptive, resourceful, possessive, determined, and focused. Healing for Healers Almost twenty years ago, a group of healing professionals began meeting in Yarmouth Port for peer teaching and supervision. Over time, like the phoenix,…

Twelve Signs of the Zodiac: Libra – Appreciation
Musing on the sign of Libra I see the scales of justice, striving for balance and fairness. I hear Stevie Wonder’s song “All in Love is Fair.” Libra desires fairness in all things but love too? John Lennon, a very famous Libran implored us to “give peace a chance.” Yet, the word that most connects me to Libran energy is “appreciation.” Appreciation is a kind of gratitude expressed in painting or music, literature or just Life at its fullest. Eugene O’Neil – October 16, 1888 “Man is born broken. He lives by mending. The grace of God is glue.” Eugene O’Neill quotes the poet Baudelaire in his moving…

Twelve Signs of 2021: Virgo – “To Be of Use”
It is completely unimportant. That is why it is so interesting. ― Agatha Christie The sign of Virgo, ruled by the planet Mercury, is associated with the sixth house. Virgo and sixth house matters concern work, health, and service. Mercury signifies a sharp and analytical mind. My long-time favorite mystery writer, Agatha Christie, was born under the sign of Virgo. Her analytical mind brought forth colorful characters and unforgettable detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss. Marple. There are many famous Virgoans (they must be the busiest people of the zodiac). Even Greta Garbo who “wanted to…

Twelve Signs of 2021: The Spirit of the Sun: Leo
Excerpt from my soon to be published memoir, “Coming Alive.” Ah Love! Could you and I with Him conspire To grasp this sorry Scheme of Things entire, Would not we shatter it to bits–and then Re-mould it nearer to the heart’s desire! -Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam Laura’s Party A party at Laura’s to celebrate the Sun-in-Leo. The Sun entered the sign of Leo in 1979 on July 23rd. I met Laura in a health club on Commonwealth Avenue near Boston University after seeing an ad she placed in the Boston Phoenix for a polarity massage. Laura was imposing. Indeed, her dark brown curly mane-like hair resembled a lion.…

Twelve Signs of 2021 – The Spirit of Water
Settling into the water sign Cancer is like crawling into bed with a good book, dreaming in a garden or by the ocean, eating home-baked bread or tasting a blueberry muffin. This month I tuned into Louis Armstrong in my art studio. Lingering with him on a beautiful day he sang to me from his heart. Love to me, is like a summer day If it ends, the memories will stay. Still, and warm, and peaceful, Now the days are getting long I can sing my summer song. Cancer is ruled by the mysterious changeable Moon. The cycles of the moon are easy to follow. This past weekend the new…

Twelve Signs for 2021 – The Air Spirit: Judy Garland
My favorite Gemini is Judy Garland, born under the sign of the Twins. The spring cycle of the zodiac moved us from the fire of Aries to the earthiness of Taurus and now to the Air Sign of Gemini. Ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, now is the time to reconnect with friends, siblings, and people nearby. A great time to write or keep a journal. Life is just a bowl of cherries. Don’t take it serious. Life’s too mysterious. Perhaps you have heard that Mercury has been traveling Retrograde since late May. Moreover, we are in an Eclipse season (Lunar on May 26, Solar on June 10). I…
